I am deeply concerned by the anti-Semitic sign at Ohios Statehouse during a recent protest rally. The sign was vile and disgusting. While even disgusting speech is constitutionally protected, it still demands condemnation.

Protests expressing outrage are not only understandable, but they are also appropriate. We want Ohioans to exercise their First Amendment rights.
I agree with the statement from Dr. Steven Hahn, Commissioner of @US_FDA, that the decision about prescribing hydroxychloroquine to treat #COVID19 should be between a doctor and a patient.
I am asking you, wherever you live, to wear a mask when in public. Some may question the wisdom of masks, but as we said when I was a prosecutor: The jury is back. The verdict is in. There is broad consensus in medical, health, & business communities that masks are critical.
I am an optimist and am confident that Ohioans will also live up to the challenge of doing things differently as we open back up beginning on May 1st.

The virus is still out there. It is still killing people. The more we open up, and the more contacts you have - no matter how careful you are - cases are going to go up. This is a balance. To throw the doors open on May 1 would be totally irresponsible.
Regarding the anti-Semitic sign held by a protester outside the statehouse: It was disgusting. It was vile. People have a right to protest and the right to carry an anti-DeWine sign, but that was wrong.
We have a plan to start opening Ohio back up. It's going to be gradual- one thing after another. We want to do this in a thoughtful way that engenders confidence and ensures customers and employees are safe.
