Far too many extremists on the right want to gut the Department of Education. Our public education system deserves better. We can<U+2019>t afford that. Our children can<U+2019>t afford that. In Congress, I will always fight for our public schools and our educators.
Last week I voted against a purely partisan attempt to bring culture wars into our nation's classrooms.<U+00A0> Instead of banning books, we should be working together to improve public education, make our schools safer, and address learning loss due to the pandemic.
Today is the International Day of Education, but we have a problem. Public school teachers are leaving the profession. We can<U+2019>t retain talented educators if we don<U+2019>t give them the support they need to teach our kids.
