<U+0001F9F5>Laura Kelly's Highway Patrol is in a shambles. It is easy for the #KSLeg to look at pay as the reason for low recruitment numbers, but the more likely and historically relevant reason is morale. Let's dive into this well-written article by Brad Cooper.<U+0001F447> https://t.co/gQ0UvLjs5P

UPDATE: Now seven resignations or retirements at the KHP so far this month. We are 16 days in. Six months of training for the next recruiting class will allegedly start in January. It is unlikely that class will be large enough to replace just the last 16 days of losses. #ksleg
<U+0001F9F5>Uh oh, someone got ahold of performance reviews for the KHP employees who are being maligned in the press for having "performance issues" that resulted in their termination. Not an issue to be found. <U+0001F937><U+200D><U+2642><U+FE0F> KHP leadership needs new excuses for being this terrible, Laura. #ksleg https://t.co/uuXI8M9W8w
It's my understanding they'll be taking their recruiting to the next level. Fire up the Instagram account! I can hear the pitch now: Join a team of demoralized professionals waiting out another term of a clueless governor while dodging the unwelcome advances of the boss. #ksleg
@KrotzOfKansas I mean, if you want to dive into the fungibility of dollars and all that we can just call this an IOU to the CCP. As far as what it can be used for, ARPA is wide ranging but has many rules associated with it. Much of it went overseas via the Department of Labor. Likely Somalia.
To her credit, Laura Kelly is doing wonders for bipartisanship. If there's one thing we agree on, it's that the current level of attrition and the lackluster recruiting at the Kansas Highway Patrol is unacceptable, and leadership must be held accountable.
Pay was hiked on July 1 by this Legislature. In fact, in conference, I nearly doubled the increase. Starting pay at the KHP is now $27.61/hr. The Wichita PD is $25.31. Yet, the KHP had one of its most pathetic class sizes ever. Wichita PD was 10x the size: https://t.co/FTjouS5T5l
The State Employee Health Plan recommendation #3 is located on page 78 of the study. Alvarez & Marsal estimates a savings of $165,000 and other efficiencies from locating SEHP along with other HR functions in the Dept of Administration. https://t.co/PLos2909NN #ksleg
