Very disappointed in our Governor’s order today sweeping away mask requirements and other measures protecting against COVID-19. This is especially wrong for workers our state hasn’t made eligible for the vaccine – who now will be at greater risk b/c of this premature order. 1/4

The right approach would be to lessen restrictions gradually as we get vaccinated. President Biden said today there should be enough vaccines for all adults by the end of May. But right now, TX is ranked 47th for % of the population that has received a vaccine dose. 3/4

I applaud these schools for making a responsible decision that is consistent with CDC guidance and the public health consensus. They are also helping our entire community at a time when the delta variant has led to a desperate situation in our hospitals. 4/6
Nobody enjoys masking. But it prevents spread of the virus and provides greater peace of mind to families. It’s better than having kids sit at home in front of a screen, shutting down schools, further overwhelming our hospitals, or adding to the sobering COVID death count. 5/6
