Rep. @GCobbHunter is advocating to give state employees who make under $50K/annually, a one time $1,200.00 bonus because they are and have been underpaid for a while. Republicans blocked it, sending the message that state employees don’t deserve a raise. #scpol

We were 13 votes short of giving State Employees in South Carolina a bonus. https://t.co/Hbn72IgJWz
RT @SCHouseDems: The SC House voted down Rep. @GCobbHunter’s amendment to give state employees earning under $50K a bonus. Her response ⬇️…
You’re absolutely right. The money is here. Plenty of it for state employees. However, certain people who are elected simply CHOOSE not to use the extra funds we have to take care of our state employees. It’s a damn shame. #scpol https://t.co/Gk4YwwijAB
@SCInjuryAtty The rationale is that state employees are underpaid and haven’t had a raise in a while. A raise was not approved so this would be a bonus. Rationale is also a lot of state employees were on the frontlines during this pandemic. I don’t believe it’s cherry picking.
