1/ Over 600 students have interned at nearly 150 orgs with support from the MD's Technology Internship Program (MTIP) since 2018. After reading UMBC Pres. Freeman Hrabowski’s op-ed about a similar program in MA, I introduced the bill creating the program. Gov Hogan funded it.

2/ The need to reform our pre-K-12 public school system is even greater than when we passed this bill last March. Children of color, children who live in impoverished circumstances have fallen even further behind their contemporaries.

2/ The people at UMBC who administer MTIP suggested that we change the min. GPA avg from 3.0 to 2.5. They say qualified students are unable to participate. I respect their judgment. But I couldn’t resist calling our legislation to bring about that change the “Belushi bill.”
