Today's new legislator experience: filing my first bill, which would establish a "butchery innovation and revitalization fund," and explore the establishment of a training program to build the small meat processing work force. #IowaAg #ialegis https://t.co/JHLay90AFa

Working by yourself kind of blows when it comes time to move equipment and no one else is around. Then there's a lot of walking by yourself. It especially sucks when something doesn't want to start and you have to walk back, too. https://t.co/QSWuTt5rLo
Hey, hey!! The Iowa Senate just passed HF 857, the Butchery Innovation and Revitalization bill to support local meat lockers and develop workforce education efforts. There's a small amendment that the House will accept and send it on to the @IAGovernor! #ialegis #IowaAg https://t.co/0aNyPwfcfl
It was great fun to spend the morning in Williamsburg to see @IAGovernor sign HF 857 to create the Butchery Innovation and Revitalization program and set up a task force to study workforce education needs for our small meat lockers. #IowaAg https://t.co/CUYcDgPujj
It's not all work at the Legislature. The Iowa Firefighters Association hosted a chili-cookoff as part of their 2021 Firefighter Day on the Hill. The chili was great, as was the conversation. We're all thankful for the work of professional and volunteer firefighters. #ialegis https://t.co/HSTIguKTrr
.@SecVilsack why do you continue to keep doors locked on your offices? The people that work there are out and about in the community when they're not at work. #SoStupid https://t.co/xK26iwGPmV
.@luke_m_kerns gave a great tour! It was fun to see behind the scenes at the locker I use for pork processing. Their expansion project will be more than doubling the building footprint and adding at least 14 jobs as part of a high quality jobs grant from @BusinessIOWA. https://t.co/9Q3zHUYxBq
The focus of the bill is really on creating and expanding smaller dairy processing in Iowa. Increasing labor efficiency is a component of the bill, but in my opinion a lesser piece. #ialegis https://t.co/STBZldyjfG
Here's a big reason why it was time to do away with the additional unemployment benefits. Iowa has the 10th highest employment/population ratio. There are states like West Virginia & Mississippi with barely over 50% of their population working. The Dakotas & Nebraska lead at 66%. https://t.co/okkJaAIZ9C
@BLibbywx It is all relative, but for those of us that work outside every day, it's merely just the first long underwear days of the season. Thanks for keeping us informed.
