Profoundly disturbed by the assassination of Charlie Kirk — a proud American and a passionate champion for free speech. Our prayers are with the family of Mr. Kirk, especially his wife and children, as they grieve this senseless killing. Despite the unsettling frequency of these incidents in recent years, we cannot allow ourselves to become accustomed to political violence. Attacks like these are an assault on our American values, our democratic principles, and the rule of law. May we unite around peace, love of country, and the right to express ourselves as Americans.

I'm proud to support the SAVE Act, a bipartisan bill that will require states to obtain proof of citizenship before registering an individual to vote, thereby ending the attempts by some states to allow non-citizens to vote. Like my past work to keep illegal immigrants from accessing the rights reserved for American citizens, this commonsense legislation delivers the basic safeguards that the public expects. I hope that this marks the beginning of bipartisan cooperation to strengthen electoral security, improve public safety, and prioritize the rights of American citizens.

As Jews throughout the world prepare to celebrate the first night of Hannukah, we learn of a vicious, antisemitic terrorist attack in Australia. This is a stark reminder of the heightened threat facing millions of Jews all throughout the world, even during a time of celebration. We join our local community in praying for the victims, their families, and for peace.

On this day 160 years ago, Major General Gordon Granger issued General Order #3, declaring the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas. Today, on Juneteenth, we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States and reflect on the extraordinary progress that occurred in the ensuing century and a half. May we always be a nation that pursues liberty and justice for every American.
