This fire season is already trending worse than last year and the last five years have been some of our worst. Yet The Governor is proposing the same funding as last year for forestry Managment projects. We need to double it. Not five years from now, right now.
I’ve been an outspoken advocate for 2 things that have largely gone ignored by this trio. 1: Robust forestry management to clear out the fuels that cause these fires to explode. 2: PG&E needs to upgrade its outdated infrastructure - with it’s shareholders picking up the tab.
Btw winter flooding of fields is not new, we have been doing in the Sacramento Valley for decades, especially with rice. It was invented by farmers not the water wizards in Newsom<U+2019>s administration. It decomposes straw, recharges aquifers and provides habitat for waterfowl.
