I authored HB 1388 to support workforce development. It puts private-sector career coaches in K-12 schools to prepare students for today<U+2019>s careers, streamlines our WFD efforts, and aligns them with employers<U+2019> needs. Thx to @DonnieBellMS for his leadership in passing this bill.

Yesterday was a monumental day for education in MS with the Governor's signing of HB 530, The Start Act of 2022. @MSHouseOfRep has been committed to bringing starting pay for Mississippi teachers to the national & regional averages, and we are glad to see it finalized.

1/2 - I commend my colleagues in the MS House for seeing the work through on final passage of HB 852, the teacher pay raise bill. The Senate sent back an amended version of our original bill, which provides less money for certain teachers.

2/2 - Additionally, we are disappointed the Senate has declined to pass our income tax bill which would have put about another $1750 back into the typical teacher’s pocket. Overall we are pleased that once again we produced a bill supporting our state’s teachers this session.

This would not have been possible without the steadfast leadership of House Education Chairman Richard Bennett, along with Representatives @KentMcCarty, @Repkwfelsher, & @JansenOwen.
