@TheStalwart This is unconstitutional in Washington (state), and perhaps others. Here, employees are entitled to a <U+201C>well funded<U+201D> pension. Also, prefunded pensions helps smooth investment returns and demographic anomalies.
@TheStalwart Oh I definitely had 2 separate objections. One is just skepticism that it would pass legal muster in my state, even if it were good policy and popular politics. My other is I don<U+2019>t think it<U+2019>s good policy, for reasons like the fact that employees aren<U+2019>t evenly distributed by age.
@TheStalwart As an elected official (and chair of our state<U+2019>s pension committee), I can also say that no matter how good of a policy it might be (just b/c I<U+2019>m skeptical doesn<U+2019>t mean there aren<U+2019>t good points), it is so politically unpopular it will be DOA. Pension groups hold tremendous sway.
@tripp_p @TheStalwart That<U+2019>s a *really* good question and now I<U+2019>m curious so I<U+2019>ll find out. I know part of the reason is that the Legislature never raised pensions or skipped payments like other states have. Also, WA has one of the best investment management teams in the country<U+2026>
