More than anything, the families of the #Uvalde victims need honest answers and transparency. Period. It would be absolutely unconscionable to use the <U+201C>dead suspect loophole<U+201D> to thwart the release of information that is so badly needed and deserved right now. #txlege<U+0001F9F5> https://t.co/OjtgRXYZ2H
This morning I established the Texas House Investigative Committee on the Robb Elementary Shooting to conduct an examination into the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. @Burrows4TX @moodyforelpaso & The Honorable Eva Guzman will conduct the investigation. #txlege
Unfortunately this much-needed, common sense measure joined the ranks of many other crim justice reform bills by meeting its death in the Texas Senate, where they stripped the language out. I think it<U+2019>s time we pass legislation to end the dead suspect loophole for good in 2023.
Unacceptable & nauseating. Under the interim charges my office issued earlier today, the House will begin to hold hearings on this issue ASAP. I<U+2019>ve reached out to @RepJamesFrank & we agree action must be taken. We must do everything in our power to stop this kind of evil. #txlege https://t.co/is7196UZQq
The <U+201C>dead suspect loophole<U+201D> allows law enforcement agencies to withhold details about cases that end w/o a conviction, including when a suspect dies in custody. The statute was originally intended to protect the wrongfully accused, but it hasn<U+2019>t really worked that way in practice
Our hearts are with the family of Special Agent Salas as they grieve his passing in the line of duty. We are indebted to his sacrifice and all the sacrifices our law enforcement officers make on our behalf each and every day. May he Rest In Peace. https://t.co/F2mPhdarlL
