@gopTODD I disliked the book, so I can<U+2019>t imagine I<U+2019>d like the movie. Krakauer is only loosely a <U+201C>journalist.<U+201D> He finds a theme and then looks for evidence of it, which isn<U+2019>t journalism. More like muckracking.

@JrdanianRhpsody @mikemckellutah @SpencerJCox Good point. I think commercial and institutional (e.g.,churches and schools) can be some of the worst offenders. New legislation focuses on the latter, however, and, on the former, I know the LDS Church and others are working to improve practices and help get the word out.

@ScreamAtTheTV The whole point of this is that, historically, the social pressure has been the other way: people feel shamed or embarrassed for dry spots. We need to embrace the dry spots. Changing those expectations simply encourages people to do the right thing.

@elisabethos @SpencerJCox Does that mean all bars are bad? Of course not. Many operate responsibly, but we have to balance access, on the one hand, with social costs, on the other, which is what the quota system does. It<U+2019>s not just a question of economic development.
