@PatrickForNYC I know you're engaging in good faith and so I'll give a good faith answer: I've been to multiple Hillel dinners (at other colleges, not yet at Hunter). You'll find Jews of all political ideologies and views. "Hillel go to hell" is not a blurry line.
Two years and one week ago, I gave my first speech on the floor of the Assembly. Today, Louisiana jailed the mother of a minor who had an abortion, and is trying to jail the NY doctor who gave the prescription. How long until my Great Grandmother's story is no longer relevant?
At least 20 synagogues were targeted, including at least 4 in my district. I've spoken with Rabbis and the Police; they have investigated the specific threats and found them to be not credible. Antisemitism is unacceptable, and the perpetrators should be prosecuted.
Pita Grill 57th and 2nd Ave had its glass broken overnight. I'm awaiting confirmation of what I am seeing online, which is that this was targeted at them because they are a kosher restaurant. If so, this is clearly antisemitic. I'm in contact with @NYPD17Pct about it.
Hate has no home on the UES. I visited the vendor that has been harassed & gave him my # in case the guy comes back. He showed me texts from neighbors supporting him & offering to come down if he feels threatened again. You can support by visiting the cart or ordering online.
Horrified by today’s attack on Israel. The dead are in our thoughts, as are the hostages. Israel must and will repel these terrorist attacks. Though no specific NY threats so far, I spoke with local precincts who are sending more officers to synagogues on this Simchat Torah.
The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice. But the universe doesn't bend itself. We move toward justice because of the work people put in day in and day out. Mourn. Take a breath. And then recommit to the work. We need you now more than ever.
