It<U+2019>s been a privilege to work on this legislation with my colleagues @JansenOwen, @Repkwfelsher, Chairman @richbennettt, and Speaker @PhilipGunnMS. Thanks as well to Senate Ed Chairman @DennisDeBar1 for his work to ensure this historic pay raise made it across the finish line.

@bricewigginsMS Absolutely. And it has to be easier for depts to let go of those with persistent issues- Derek Chauvin certainly fits that profile. Accelerate the culture shift for the vast majority of officers who respect the call to protect and serve. Thanks for sharing- a very good read.

I know that many in our community, especially those out of work, are eager to see these orders fully lifted so that we may return to normal . I want to assure you that everyone wants to see that as soon as it is safe to do so, but the risk for a resurgence in cases remains.

The MS Department of Employment Security has announced expanded eligibility for those unable to work due to the COVID-19 outbreak. New guidelines include: " Those who are quarantined by a medical professional or a gov agency, " Those who are diagnosed with COVID-19 #msleg 1/5 https://t.co/NFyYnFYJ48

This is excellent news for unemployed Mississippians. If your work is impacted by COVID-19, benefits are available to you immediately & you will not be required to fulfill work search obligation to receive benefits (an unnecessary hurdle for the many facing temp. layoffs). #msleg https://t.co/woYXkw3dwp

@oldrustyeagle1 I completely agree, and my understanding is that we<U+2019>ll be addressing their pay this session as well. It<U+2019>s long overdue!

@oldrustyeagle1 Agree- Our state workers are chronically underpaid. As we work through the budget appropriations process this year, we hope to address that as well.

@kcampbell118 @ashtonpittman Under the legislation, those working in critical shortage areas will receive a higher loan repayment award. Again, this is one piece of the puzzle. Both House & Senate chairmen are committed to raising pay annually until it is competitive.
