As the conversation about the MS flag continues, I want to be clear about where I stand. Mississippians deserve a flag that unites us, not divides us. Our flag was originally chosen by the legislature in 1894, & I believe its time for us to lead & make a change now. #msleg
Historic turnout in Mississippi- despite a pandemic and long waits- is a beautiful thing to see. Though my county moved through lines quickly, thousands of voters waited- some for hours. Many are unable to do so. We need to expand access to secure, in-person early voting in MS.
By a vote of 85-34, the MS House has voted in favor of HCR 79 to suspend the rules, clearing the way for a vote to change the current state flag. It now moves to the Senate for consideration. #msleg

By a vote of 37-14, Senate has passed HB1796. It now goes to Gov @tatereeves, who has indicated he will sign the bill. Folks, #msleg work is done. Within 15 days, our current flag will be retired & work will begin to choose a replacement. A momentous day for Mississippi. #msflag
The people of MS deserve & expect a legitimate ballot initiative process that they can actually use.. the current proposal is restrictive, virtually unworkable, & a slap in the face to voters. By a vote of 36-14 the Senate has passed HCR 79. Both chambers have now voted to suspend the rules, allowing for the introduction of a bill to change the #MSFlag. This bill will require only a simple majority for passage. I suspect history will be made very soon. #msleg https://t.co/Mrao3alY5R
As a 5th generation Mississippian, I am deeply proud of our state & all it can be. I know this is an intensely personal decision & some will not agree with my position. However, I believe in my heart that this is in the best interest of our state, our people, & our future. #msleg
Before blaming delays in election results on early voting, remember that: 1) Counts of Election Day votes are rarely 100% complete on Election Day. 2) FL, TX, etc have proven it can be done efficiently, without delays. 3) Close elections take time, no matter the vote method.
