RT @maggiesmithpoet: We<U+2019>ve lost our damn minds if we think that to keep kids safe in school, we need to ban books, not assault weapons.

Not only is Maryland ranked 40th nationally in getting vaccines to residents, but the gov. has directed schools to reopen in five weeks when few teachers will have received both shots. Employee safety? Maybe later.
The Maryland senate just overrode the Hogan veto of the major school reform effort called Kirwan. We rejected the status quo and the desire to leave our schools in mediocrity. There’s now reason for hope during this difficult time.
Gov Hogan: you directed all schools to return to in-person instruction and encouraged school sports to begin. Why not tell parents, teachers & students what they should do now?
Passed "Disorderly Closure" bill yesterday in MD Senate to protect students from sketchy, for-profit colleges that go bankrupt or close their doors in the middle of the night. Very proud to be the lead sponsor.
MD AG Brian Frosh announced that 1100 former ITT students will receive debt relief as a result of a lawsuit. For-profit ITT college went bankrupt while also running a scam with loan companies. Kudos to MD For protecting its students.
Very proud that EHE comm. and MD Senate passed 90/10 restriction on predatory recruitment efforts by some for-profit colleges. Now 90% will include military veterans. MD is on the way to becoming the first state to do so. @protectingmdstudents
I had the honor, as chairman of the Senate's EHE Comm, to present the landmark Blueprint for Maryland's Future (aka the 'Kirwan Report'). This effort to make all of our schools world class was presented on 2nd reader today with, hopefully, final passage to come early next week. https://t.co/rdPSxgswWu
How and under what conditions should schools reopen? It's complicated. We need a plan. Senate President @SenBillFerg and I are hosting a roundtable to discuss this issue with three county superintendents Thursday at 10AM. Click the link to view. https://t.co/ZbBHZTFxKy
Hogan gets credit for his early response on the virus, but since then, cases are up, bars are open, but PG Schools will start virtually and his decision to open all polling places in Nov could lead to chaos. Read my take here: https://t.co/rDbvSYbD80
