Late yesterday we filed suit against Temu, the e-commerce company out of China. Why? Because, in addition to ripping off intellectual property rights in Nebraska, we learned that their app is designed as malware to exfiltrate data back to the Chinese government. The app can access almost every corner of a smartphone, from text messages to microphones, and it is designed to avoid detection. None of this is disclosed to users, and all of the siphoned data goes back to one place -- the Chinese government. The widespread use of this app implicates Nebraska's consumer protection laws, and it has major geopolitical and national security implications.
