The most profound part of @jamestalarico conversation with @joerogan was the part where he shared his “why”. Why did he run State Representative in the first place? He told the story of one his student named Justin. He talked about the connection he built with Justin, the improvements Justin began to show in the classroom, and then how state lawmakers failed Justin by cutting education funding. The cuts in funding led to a critical mental health support being taken away from Justin and ultimately his expulsion. At the center of the criteria by which Rep. Talarico examines the merits of policy is “whether it will help my students or hurt my students.” That's being a good shepherd, a good leader, and thinking about the most vulnerable among us. To restore dignity to our politics we have to center people over the powerful/politically connected in the policy development process. Thank you for serving and for engaging in ths space Rep. Talarico
