Power now turned off in parts of my Senate district due to expected high winds. I think of the medically vulnerable where power is life: electric wheelchairs, refrigeration for medicine, heart and lung machines. We have to harden our electrical grid. We have to do better.

Power is now restored at my place- almost 48 hours of being dark. Everything spoiled in freezer and frig. More importantly, I await facts on what @PGE4Me did to care for the medically vulnerable and what outages by cell and and cable services compromised public safety.

Latest @PGE4Me update: power wont be restored in my area until Tues PM. Spoiled food in refrig/freezer are bad but no power for life caring devices for ppl is very serious. Fire prevention is no joke but I want to see facts on actions taken to care for people not just alerts.

Thanks to @HenrySternCA for supporting legislation to protect medically vulnerable people during power outages, keeping the power on at hospitals during shutdowns and providing backup power generators at cell phone towers. f@ilike_mikei https://t.co/xQGLB0bvXA

Hundreds of cell towers were down during public safety power shutoffs last October, preventing tens of thousands from access to emergency notifications. Sen. f@ilike_mikei and I announce 3 law changing responses at press conference Weds, 8:30am, room 113, State Capitol. https://t.co/TvLUDqWUX2

Senate Energy Committee agrees- we should not leave our medically vulnerable in the dark during power shutdowns. SB 801 passed 9-1. Thank you Chairman @SenBenHueso, and co-authors, @ilike_Mike @SenBillDodd @HenrySternCA @SenSusanRubio @ScottWilkCA @CASenatorJim @BauerKahan https://t.co/sIEzBi9cGd

Today, Senator McGuire and I are unveiling legislation to help Californians deal with some of the worst effects of power outages until PG&E and other utilities can ensure that they can keep the lights on during dangerous high-wind conditions. https://t.co/fLBtf0uSvi

When a utility fails to provide these hospitals, fire departments, and people with medical conditions with adequate warning of its decision to execute a (shut-off), it is endangering lives, PG&E may be fined $165.7 million for 2019 shut-off missteps https://t.co/61cOaPGZHc

Some cities in Senate District 7 may face Public Safety Power Shutoffs today. Thanks @SanRamonMedCtr ! https://t.co/7mcTeSQLlV

Cell towers are modern day lifelines. When they go down during emergencies, lives are at risk. @PGE4Me needs to harden their system to prevent #psps. Until that happens, cable and cell companies need to ensure 72 hours of power backups will help with earthquakes too! https://t.co/E0WgUbfiU6
