Florida is rich with incredible seabirds and upland foul, we should have a state bird that immediately says Florida. Not the common northern mockingbird which is also the state bird of 4 other states. #wecandobetter https://t.co/NYxOymPIAg

Getting lots of great feedback on SB324 and sparking a discussion on a state bird that is unique to or is often associated with Florida. Some suggestions have included the following: Ibis, scrub-jay, flamingo, Osceola turkey, great egret, construction crane, snowbird, & mosquito.

I should mention that the mockingbird is also the state bird of 4 other states. The mockingbird apparently had a very good lobbyist.

Join the movement to select a new state bird of #Florida. Vote for a bird to replace the current state bird (the northern mockingbird) with something that makes you immediately think Florida. Cast your vote here or reply with you favorite https://t.co/kviaF6U3cR

It’s gonna be ok, the northern mockingbird will still be the State bird of 3 other states (all north of us) and we will have a bird that you naturally associate with Florida! #winwin https://t.co/UyXJdzHD1D
