My self and Senator Munoz met with CEO, Chairman of the Board and others from Tri State on Monday afternoon at the Escalante Plant to get answers and ask questions on why the plant is closing and why sooner than was communicated to us during the last legislative session. #nmleg https://t.co/alMzSNxstR
5/12 In the end the Energy Transmission Act passed by a vote of 32 yes and 9 no with 1 recusal. #nmpol #nmleg
7/12 @TriStateGT did not have to close the Escalante Generation Station immediately but could have worked with the community to repurpose the plant.
8/12 Escalante could have been repurposed for natural gas or some other form of energy generating product or at a minimum ramp up the closure over a ten year period giving the region time to work on other economic development efforts.
9/12 The ETA did not require Escalante to immediately move to renewables but to be at 50% by 2030, 80% by 2040 and 100% by 2045. I believe Tri State is already getting their power from renewables at around 30%.
3/12 Last #nmleg session when I outlined concerns about the Energy Transmission Act (ETA) I was reassured by @TriStateGT that there would not be an immediate negative economic reaction to the legislation and I voted for the bill.
4/12 I take full responsibility for my vote, but under the reality that I would not have been able to kill the bill I worked with @TriStateGT and our local electric cooperative and the state cooperative association to make the bill more acceptable. #nmleg #nmpol
